Health

Bristol City of Sanctuary recognise that the many struggles and difficulties that refugees and asylum- seekers face, also include limited access to healthcare. Everyone in the United Kingdom is entitled to access NHS primary care for free however, people seeking asylum face bigger barriers and have been found to have been wrongfully refused from this.

We have two initiatives that we are currently working on:

  • Safe Surgeries– Bristol City of Sanctuary and Doctors of the World are working together to encourage GP practices to take active steps to help tackle the barriers that refugees and asylum-seekers face when accessing healthcare.
  • Maternity Services– Bristol City of Sanctuary are working closely with other charities to raise awareness that refugees and asylum-seekers may face within maternity services while providing more support on the journey to parenthood.
