The people of Bristol came together in a show of unity on Sunday when hundreds attended Bristol Jamia Mosque in Totterdown for tea and snacks. The event, organised a week after the mosque was attacked, provided the opportunity for the community to offer their support and demonstrate that any act of hate will not be tolerated. Zaheer Shabir, spokesperson for the mosque spoke movingly, telling the attendees that “exactly seven days ago today, we were struck with shock, anxiety and fear. Seven days later, we have been cuddled with love and blessings by the many.” Indeed, the mosque was so full that visitors spilled outside onto the doorstep; people from all backgrounds rallying to show their friendship and support.
