Rita Ora is known for many things. An internationally acclaimed singer, she is also known for her foray into acting and, most recently, her acquisition of a place on the Xfactor Judging Panel. What is less well-known is that she is a Kosovan refugee, brought over at the age of one by her parents who were fleeing the war.

Speaking to Channel 4 News, she told of how “grateful” she is to her parents for choosing to make a better life for her and her sister. When asked about the often negative rhetoric surround immigration, Ora responded that “as an experienced refugee, you never really want to hear the words get out. What you want to hear is somebody giving a hand to help.”
